Government bodies including the NRMA create such programs including crime prevention van, operation never again, BizSafe and good neighbor programme. The crime prevention van provides the community with practical advice and information regarding anti-theft matters which in turn, enable the person to establish a safer home. Operation never again acts to support victims of break and enter as to ensure the crime does not happen again, making breaking and entering a more difficult crime to achieve and therefore, less satisfying to the criminal. BizSafe, another NRMA initiative is joint with the NSW police department to promote a commercial crime development programme promoting education on crime prevention measures. Lastly, the good neighbor programme establishes opportunities for people to get to know their neighbors and as a result create a bond between them, allowing neighbors to watch out for each other and in turn, creating a safer community. These four measures created by the NRMA are an example of government and community partnership in order to prevent crime.

There are many ways in which the government and the community are working to prevent crime. Two types of this crime prevention are social and situational. Situational crime prevention focuses on the reduction of the opportunity for crime to occur while social crime seeks to prevent offending though the change of social order rather than the physical environment by giving society the tools to reduce criminal behaviour. This can be done through educational programs or youth centers. Theft of cars or the valuables from it is a common type of crime that through crime prevention strategies are gradually reducing. Car theft has been reduced significantly since 2000. It has fallen on average by more than 10%. There are many ways that car theft can be prevented. By using common sense car theft and the theft of valuables form the car can be prevented easily. These steps include not leaving valuables in the car, making sure windows and doors are locked, keeping personal items out of sight, making sure the car is locked, park away from quiet streets and where it is well lit, keep your keys safe, use steering wheel locks, install alarms and finally install an engine immobiliser. As well as these common sense strategies the Government has collaborated with the NSW police and set up various signs in car parks to ensure that individuals remember to lock their car and take their valuables out. However at times this can prove ineffective as people forget about having read the sign or don’t notice the sign when they are trying to find a place to park. Another initiative that the NSW police and the NRMA have put in place to try and prevent crime is BizSafe. This is a 90 minute workshop that discusses crime in the local area and what can be done to reduce the risk of it affecting your business. At this course citizens receive a course manual and business security assessment booklet that educate people on safety, security, shoplifting, stealing, burglary, armed robbery, arson, graffiti and fraud. As well as this the BizSafe program allows business to get more information on each of these areas after the initial workshop. This program therefore equips society with the educational means to protect themselves against crime within the local area. An action carried out by the NSW government to prevent graffiti is the NSW Government’s Graffiti Action Plan which includes new measure to target graffiti vandals and prevent the act through a better designed building and targeting the hotspots for this crime. They have made planners of all state buildings and have $1million annual grant programs to fund the implementation of anti graffiti hotspots. As well as this banned possession of spray cans has become an offence for juveniles, increasing penalties and clean up orders for the vandals instead of fines. Finally they have implemented a Graffiti action day that works in partnership with the Keep Australia Beautiful in order to clean up graffiti and try and reduce the amount of offenders. Finally the Neighborhood Watch NSW program has been implemented by the Government and volunteers in the local area to attempt to reduce crime by increasing the fear for offenders. This program is one where members of the police, local government and community band together to reduce the localized crime. This is by encouraging awareness in the community, encouraging involvement, identifying real and potential safety issues, coordinating efforts and using the police for early prevention of young offenders. The Neighbourhood Watch program has been established to strive for inclusive and sustainable communities which will see shared responsibility about community safety. The program aims to foster safe and secure communities through constantly reducing the likelihood of community members becoming involved or a victim to crime. This program also increases the awareness of crime within society and encourages community involvement in local community safety. Public opinion concerning crime prevention is a very important source which is usually over looked by the government and supporting authorities. The Community Safety Precinct Committees provides this opportunity for local citizens and Councils to meet with Police and share their perspectives on local crime and prevention issues. This program provides the opportunity to get involved in strategies designed to address local crime concerns and also the opportunity for Local Area Commanders to promote accurate local crime information and also raise awareness of crime prevention approaches. The purpose of this program is to ensure Local Area Commanders are continually communicating with local communities in order to develop local solutions to improve public safety and reduce the fear of crime at a local level. The Traffic Offender Intervention Program is a local court based program which targets offenders who have plead guilty of have been found guilty of a traffic offence. The aim of the program is to provide offenders with the information and skills necessary to develop positive attitudes towards driving and develop safer driving behaviours. Another government initiative is the NRMA Insurance partners with the New South Wales Police Force and local councils to combat burglary and car theft at a local level. The NRMA along with the NSW Police Force have develop a number of programs to address local crime issues.

At the end of the workshop you can also request further specific information sessions on a range of business crime issues including: personal safety, store security, shoplifting and stealing, burglary, armed robbery, arson, malicious damage such as graffiti and internal and external fraud.

Australian Government bodies have a significant role in the prevention of crime. Together with the New South Wales police, NRMA has created a commercial crime prevention program called ‘BizSafe’. It works to prevent shoplifting and stealing; preventing robbery and burglary; preventing fraud and risk management. It aims to educate small to medium business operators on the way they can reduce the risk of crime against their businesses.
Safer By Design is another crime prevention program that focuses on the planning design and structure of cities and neighborhoods. It reduces opportunities for crime by using design and place management principles. It maximizes risk to offenders and maximizes the effort required to commit crime.
The Graffiti Reduction Demonstration Project was designed to complement existing graffiti vandalism prevention activities in each of the Local Government Areas. This is an example of another way crimes can be prevented. Creating projects, and working together as a community can always help. The project included rapid removal through volunteer programs; it also worked to increase natural surveillance and eliminate blind spots, e.g. park paths.

STOP GRAFFITI VANDALISM
Program: preventing graffiti vandalism
Aim: educates victims or soon to be victims about ways in which one can stop property damage. It also advices about ways in which property owners can discourage graffiti vandals. This program also supplies property owners with many types of preventative action which they can undertake. This includes: - Removing graffiti promptly - Maintain your property - Install fencing that will not attract graffiti - Employing security measures
LAW LINK Program: trafficking graffiti vandalism and reducing retail and personal theft
Aim: the NSW government takes the vandalism of graffiti seriously so to stop this government had put into place an anti-graffiti action team to lead and coordinate a range of initiatives to take graffiti vandalism.

This is primarily through targeting places which have a reputation for being subjected to excessive amounts of vandalism, with annual funding of $1 million directed towards this initiative. Better building designs are also a priority of this action plan, as planners of all new state government buildings must now consider graffiti and crime prevention measures as part of their design plans.
The NSW Police Force operates a register known as the ‘CCTV Register’, which is a database established to record the location of CCTV installations across the whole of NSW. Being part of the register is optional, and consent must be given on behalf of the business owner. The information stored on this register is collected and monitored by the NSW Police Force, and is used for operational policing of the businesses.
The Neighborhood Watch NSW is a program designed to reduce local crime and fear by coordinating approaches towards the prevention of localized misdeeds. The program aims to fulfill this objective by increasing community awareness of crime preventions strategies, encouraging community involvement, identifying safety issues which exist within the communal area and utilizing services provided by the local police aimed at educating young children.
NRMA Insurance also works in partnership with local councils and the NSW Police Force to organize and deliver initiatives and programs targeting local crime issues. The Magistrates Early Referral Into Treatment (MERIT) is developed in order to support illicit drug users after substance abuse preventing reuse of the illicit substances. The organisation does not require admissions of guilt as it just provides those who meet the eligible criteria with substance abuse issues assistance. Furthermore the New South Wales police force advices citizens on how to protect themselves from various types of crime, as well as other forms of prevention, such as making it known that crim enforcement agencies are largely prominent among society. As well as this the NRMA are working with the New South Wales police in preventing car crime such as theft and burglary. Therefore crime prevention police vans have been station throughout the state in order to combat such criminal activities. Finally, the New South Wales government is working to prevent crimes such as graffiti, by monitoring and restricting purchases of spray cans, as well as campaigns to emphasise to youth the criminal act of graffiti. NRMA
Program: crime prevention van
Aim of program: aims at providing practical advice and information on anti-theft measures, which may associate with inexpensive security measures.
The NRMA program also provides competitions such as Bizsafe in hope of enticing young adults or youth and to educate them about simple measure against crime.
STOP GRAFFITI VANDALISM
Program: preventing graffiti vandalism
Aim: educates victims or soon to be victims about ways in which one can stop property damage.
It also advices about ways in which property owners can discourage graffiti vandals. This program also supplies property owners with many types of preventative action which they can undertake. This includes:
- Removing graffiti promptly
- Maintain your property
- Install fencing that will not attract graffiti
- Employing security measures

Aim: the NSW government takes the vandalism of graffiti seriously so to stop this government had put into place an anti-graffiti action team to lead and coordinate a range of initiatives to take graffiti vandalism.

The NSW Government’s Graffiti Action Plan focuses on implementing new and revised measures to target graffiti vandals. This is primarily through targeting places which have a reputation for being subjected to excessive amounts of vandalism, with annual funding of $1 million directed towards this initiative. Better building designs are also a priority of this action plan, as planners of all new state government buildings must now consider graffiti and crime prevention measures as part of their design plans.
The NSW Police Force operates a register known as the ‘CCTV Register’, which is a database established to record the location of CCTV installations across the whole of NSW. Being part of the register is optional, and consent must be given on behalf of the business owner. The information stored on this register is collected and monitored by the NSW Police Force, and is used for operational policing of the businesses.
The Neighborhood Watch NSW is a program designed to reduce local crime and fear by coordinating approaches towards the prevention of localized misdeeds. The program aims to fulfill this objective by increasing community awareness of crime preventions strategies, encouraging community involvement, identifying safety issues which exist within the communal area and utilizing services provided by the local police aimed at educating young children.
NRMA Insurance also works in partnership with local councils and the NSW Police Force to organize and deliver initiatives and programs targeting local crime issues. These programs include the ‘Crime Prevention Plan’, which provides advice and information on measures to prevent theft, ‘Operation Never Again’, which provides support to break and enter victims aimed to educate them in proper anti-theft measures, as well as ‘BizSafe’, a commercial crime prevention program in cooperation with the NSW Police.

The Magistrates Early Referral Into Treatment (MERIT) is developed in order to support illicit drug users after substance abuse preventing reuse of the illicit substances. The organisation does not require admissions of guilt as it just provides those who meet the eligible criteria with substance abuse issues assistance. Furthermore the New South Wales police force advices citizens on how to protect themselves from various types of crime, as well as other forms of prevention, such as making it known that crim enforcement agencies are largely prominent among society. As well as this the NRMA are working with the New South Wales police in preventing car crime such as theft and burglary. Therefore crime prevention police vans have been station throughout the state in order to combat such criminal activities. Finally, the New South Wales government is working to prevent crimes such as graffiti, by monitoring and restricting purchases of spray cans, as well as campaigns to emphasise to youth the criminal act of graffiti.
